Chickenbox

We moved the chicks from the kitchen to the sunroom and into a huge new box. The new box has tall sides to prevent flying/fleeing. Got it from the recycling bin at Fleet Farm. The kids truly enjoy decorating the chicken boxes with elaborate art and messages.  Minna drew an especially gorgeous freehand illustration of a royal chicken couple inspired no doubt by the newly married royal couple, Will & Kate!  We are not sure if our little chickies are interested in the art or messages in their home, however they are very curious and seem to notice things.  They seem most content however, pecking at black spots we purposely placed on the wall to encourage their foraging instincts and deter pecking at one another.

It is interesting to note that everytime we get a new chickenbox, the questions are the same...is it big enough? Where should we put it? Who is setting it up? Is it warm enough? What are we going to put on it? etc.  How do we keep the water clean?  By the time we figure it all out, the chicks grow too big and need to go in a bigger space...thus continuing the cycle!
